Partner & Investment Committee Member, Balance Point Capital
Mr. Kaplan possesses more than fifteen years of private equity and investment banking experience with a focus on providing junior capital, including mezzanine, preferred and common equity and structured capital to companies in the lower middle market throughout the United States. Mr. Kaplan joined Balance Point as a Partner in 2013. Mr. Kaplan is active in business origination efforts, deal execution and portfolio company monitoring. Prior to joining Balance Point, Mr. Kaplan was a Senior Vice President for BNY Mellon Alcentra Mezzanine Partners, L.P., from 2004 – 2013, where he was responsible for transaction sourcing, deal execution and the monitoring of portfolio companies which included significant workout and restructuring experience. Mr. Kaplan was a member of the investment committee and served on the boards of directors of several portfolio companies. From 2001 – 2004, Mr. Kaplan was an investment banker with Marlin & Associates, LLC, a boutique firm specializing in business information services. Mr. Kaplan began his career in 1998 with the investment banking group of Veronis Suhler Stevenson, an independent investment bank and private equity fund specializing in the media industry, where he completed more than 25 corporate finance and private equity related transactions totaling over $2.0 billion in aggregate deal value.
Mr. Kaplan holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University.

President, iDevices Chris Allen is the President of iDevices, the preeminent brand and development partner in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. In 2009, Chris invented the iGrill, the first app-enabled product that had its debut in Apple stores in November, 2010. This product launch was at the start of the IoT era and Chris has continued to develop iDevices into the leader in this market. In 2016, Weber-Stephens Products LLC acquired iGrill, allowing iDevices to focus even more heavily on on the connected Smart Home space. In April of 2017, Hubbell Incorporated acquired iDevices, solidifying their place in the forefront of the home automation market and bringing a vastly larger audience to their product lines. Today, Chris works with his team to strategically plan the company’s product and partnership roadmap, manage strategic relationships, and Business Development.
Prior to iDevices, Chris comes from an investment background having worked for over 15 years for A.G. Edwards & Sons (now Wells Fargo Investments), Prudential Financial and Allstate.
Chris’ philosophy when it comes to smart home technology, has consistently been about providing the consumer best user experience possible and enhancing their everyday life. In an effort to do this, he believes it’s paramount that the technology be directly integrated into the home. Chris believes that, “Technology should be invisible to the user and any device should merely exist to enhance the users’ daily life.”

President & CEO, Cybrexa Per Hellsund is currently the co-founder, President, and CEO of Cybrexa, a start-up focused on developing an entirely new class of small molecule DNA repair inhibitors that directly target the tumor microenvironment. Previously, he was Co-founder, President & CEO of CyVek, where in just over four years he led the development, commercialization and exit of a novel automated immunoassay system that was acquired by Bio-techne. Before that, he was the president of inc.jet, Inc., a start-up in the inkjet printing space that led the introduction of thermal inkjet printing into the commercial printing space. Hellsund has undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business, and a Master’s Degree in Management from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

CEO, Awareness Technologies Brad Miller joined Awareness Technologies in March 2010 as CEO and Chairman. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Perimeter eSecurity where he pioneered Security-in-the-Cloud. Brad grew Perimeter from under $1MM to $60MM in revenues for a compound annual growth rate of over 600%. This outstanding growth rate earned Perimeter numerous awards including Deloitte Fast 50 and 500 5 years in a row. Leveraging these accomplishments Brad secured over $100MM in capital for Perimeter from Goldman Sachs, Bessemer Venture Partners and others.
Prior to his time at Perimeter, Brad was COO of Production Resource Group, which he grew from $30mm to $350mm in 2 years via the acquisition of 24 companies. During that time, Brad raised over $275mm in capital for PRG.
Brad has won several personal awards including Innovator of the Year and was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist. Finally, he and his business accomplishments have been featured in several books including The Business of Software by renowned MIT Sloane Business School professor Michael Cusumano.
Brad started his career at Schroders, an international investment bank, where he focused on Mergers and Acquisitions and founded the Financial Sponsors Group. Prior to that, he received his MBA from Columbia University where he is now a Mentor in the Entrepreneurship Institute helping current students advance their business plans. Brad has served or currently serves on the Boards of Palomar Technologies, Production Resource Group, Perimeter eSecurity and Awareness Technologies.
